String Crafting
These Workshops will introduce the student to three types of bowstring: the Flemish Twist, Flemish Backtwist and the Continuous Loop. Throughout each Workshop students will have a hands on experience learning about string material, techniques and tension from historical to modern, how to measure, adjust length and care for their string. Each participant will leave with their very own custom string.
Flemish Twist - Students will start with one of humankind’s oldest crafting skills: how to make cordage. Starting with Red Cedar bark we will practice the ancient cordage method. Our Instructors will then guide each student in creating their very own personalized single loop Flemish Twist using modern materials using the cordage method. Upon completion students will then learn the ‘bowyer’s knot’ to close their string.
